The 1911 fire
September 1, 2026
The original clubhouse — the Gowf Ha, which the seventeenth is named for — was a single room with a stove, a table, and a shelf of members’ clubs. It burned down in the early hours of a January morning in 1911 and took the club’s first minute book with it.
What survived is the medal board, because it was hanging in the professional’s shop fifty yards away, and one photograph, because a member had taken it home to have it framed. Both are in the hall now.
